At The Lisboan, our campus doesn’t end at the school gates.

Located in the heart of Lisbon, we use the city itself as an extension of our learning environment, giving students access to an extraordinary range of cultural, academic, sporting and creative opportunities that few schools can offer.

Our Lisbon as a Classroom Programme transforms the city into a place where learning comes alive through authentic experiences, meaningful partnerships and real-world exploration. Every visit is purposeful, carefully planned and directly connected to students’ learning, helping them develop the confidence, curiosity and skills to thrive in an ever-changing world.

THE CITY AS OUR CLASSROOM

Some lessons are best learned by experiencing them.

Students regularly step beyond the classroom to explore museums, galleries, universities, theatres, science centres, businesses, parks, historical landmarks and community organisations. They meet experts, investigate real-world challenges and see how their learning connects to everyday life.

These experiences enrich the curriculum while developing critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Learning becomes relevant, memorable and inspiring because students don’t just study the world—they experience it.

THE CITY AS OUR PLAYGROUND

Learning continues long after lessons finish.

Our central location allows students to enjoy an exceptional range of co-curricular and after-school activities, many of which are within walking distance of the school. Rather than bringing every activity onto campus, we take advantage of the outstanding facilities, venues and expertise that Lisbon already offers.

Students might rehearse with professional musicians, take part in drama workshops, row on the River Tagus, climb, surf, explore entrepreneurship hubs, collaborate with local organisations or participate in sustainability projects across the city.

Through these experiences, students discover new passions, build confidence and become active participants in the life of their city.

LEARNING TO NAVIGATE THE WORLD

Independence is learned through experience.

Approximately 90% of our educational visits take place using Lisbon’s public transport network. Travelling by tram, metro, bus and train forms an important part of the programme, teaching students how to move safely and confidently around the city while developing practical life skills, independence and environmental awareness.

Supported by staff every step of the way, students gradually become capable, responsible and confident young people who feel connected to the city around them.

The Lisbon as a Classroom Programme is one of the defining features of The Lisboan Experience Programme.

While the Experience Programme provides dedicated weekly time for students to explore new interests across our eight Experience Pillars, Lisbon becomes the setting where many of those experiences take place. Together, they create an education that extends far beyond the timetable—combining academic excellence with creativity, wellbeing, service, entrepreneurship, outdoor learning and cultural exploration.
