Being eco-centric means placing the environment at the heart of learning. It means using the natural world as a lens through which students explore ideas, solve problems and understand their role in shaping a more sustainable future.

SUSTAINABILITY WOVEN INTO LEARNING

At The Lisboan, sustainability is not taught as a separate topic. It is woven into everyday school life, classroom learning and real-world experiences.

Through topic-based learning and meaningful links to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, students explore global challenges in age-appropriate ways, developing curiosity, responsibility and a sense of purpose. They learn that small actions matter, and that every individual has a role to play in protecting the planet.

Our aim is to help students become thoughtful, courageous and responsible global citizens: young people who are not only aware of the challenges facing the world, but who feel empowered to act.

SUSTAINABILITY IN ACTION

Our location in Lisbon gives students unique opportunities to connect with nature, community and the city around them. From parks and gardens to the river, coastline and urban green spaces, students use the local environment as an extension of the classroom.

Through hands-on projects, outdoor learning and local partnerships, students explore ecosystems, biodiversity, conservation and sustainable living in practical, memorable ways.

This may include:

Learning in Lisbon’s parks, gardens and coastline
Taking part in beach clean-ups and community initiatives
Exploring urban gardening and biodiversity projects
Understanding waste reduction, recycling and responsible consumption
Seeing sustainable school practices modelled in daily life
Connecting with local organisations and environmental experts
