Our Story

We might be a new school, but we are proud of the historic roots that connect us to this vibrant city. Our building, once a former pasta and flour factory, originally dates back to 1908. The factory was acquired in 1926 by the Industrial Company of Portugal and Colonies (CIPC), and remained operational until 1970.

Part of the Lisbon Landscape

Over half a century later, it has been reimagined and reborn as an exceptional 21st century learning space. The stunning result is the realisation of our vision to honour the site’s industrial significance while infusing it with new life and securing its sustainable future as part of the Lisbon landscape.

We’ve preserved the façades and as many of the original features as possible, sympathetically renovating and repurposing 12,000 square meters of space to provide our students with a learning environment that blends cutting-edge facilities with architectural heritage and character.

Our appreciation of the past is balanced by consideration of our planet’s future. We are proud to offer our families a carbon-neutral education, keep our energy consumption as low as possible by harnessing the sun’s energy during the day while maximising shade and cooling.

The Lisboan’s location in the heart of Alcântara puts us right at the centre of a dynamic community that attracts entrepreneurs, creative minds and forward-thinkers from around the world.

We are looking forward to welcoming your family to our school and being part of the exciting future we are building here at The Lisboan.
