House System

EVERY STUDENT BELONGS

From their very first day at The Lisboan, every student becomes part of one of our four Houses. More than a friendly competition, our House System creates a strong sense of belonging, bringing together students of different ages to build friendships, develop leadership skills and contribute to school life.

Through shared experiences, students learn that success is achieved not only through individual effort, but by supporting one another and working together as a community.

🏆

MORE THAN A COMPETITION

The House System runs throughout the school year and provides opportunities for every student to participate, regardless of age, interests or abilities.

  • Sports Days and friendly competitions
  • Creative challenges and collaborative art projects
  • Sustainability initiatives and community service
  • Academic quizzes and team challenges
  • Whole-school celebrations and special events
  • Student leadership opportunities

Every activity is designed to strengthen collaboration, resilience, responsibility and school spirit while allowing students to earn House Points that contribute to the annual House Championship.

FOUR HOUSES. FOUR STORIES.

Each House is inspired by a figure from mythology, chosen to represent qualities we hope to nurture in every student.

The names were selected by our founding Headteacher, whose background in archaeology and passion for mythology reflect our belief that stories help shape identity and inspire character.

ARTEMIS HOUSE

Courage • Curiosity • Nature

Artemis, goddess of the hunt and protector of the natural world, represents independence, confidence and a spirit of exploration.

Her connection with nature reflects our eco-centric philosophy and our belief that the world beyond the classroom is one of our greatest teachers. Artemis also reflects our connection with the Artemis Education family.

Students in Artemis are encouraged to lead with purpose, support others and pursue their goals with determination.

GAIA HOUSE

Sustainability • Care • Responsibility

Gaia, the personification of Mother Earth, represents our commitment to sustainability and responsible global citizenship.

She reminds students that every action has an impact and encourages them to care for both people and the planet.

Students in Gaia are encouraged to respect the world around them, value community and contribute positively to both local and global environments.

ODIN HOUSE

Wisdom • Resilience • Leadership

In Norse mythology, Odin sacrificed one of his eyes in pursuit of wisdom and knowledge. He reminds us that learning requires curiosity, perseverance and courage.

His two ravens, symbols of knowledge and insight, also echo the ravens that appear on Lisbon's historic coat of arms, creating another meaningful connection with our city.

Students in Odin are encouraged to think deeply, ask questions and embrace new challenges with confidence and determination.

ULYSSES HOUSE

Adventure • Curiosity • Discovery

According to legend, Ulysses founded the city of Lisbon, making him a fitting symbol for our school.

His remarkable journey represents resilience, problem-solving and the courage to embrace new experiences—qualities we encourage every student to develop as they navigate their own learning journey.

Ulysses students are encouraged to be brave, adaptable and open to discovering new ideas, places and perspectives.

BUILDING COMMUNITY FOR LIFE

The House System is one of the threads that connects every stage of a student's journey at The Lisboan. From Early Years through to Secondary, Houses create lasting friendships, celebrate individual strengths and foster a genuine sense of belonging.

Because when students feel they belong, they have the confidence to challenge themselves, support others and thrive together.
